Periodontal diseases
Periodontal diseases are serious infections that, left untreated, can lead to tooth loss and pose a risk to your overall health.
Periodontal disease is a chronic bacterial infection. In the mildest form of the disease, gingivitis, only the gums become inflamated. Gingivitis is reversible with professional treatment and good oral home care. Untreated gingivitis can advance to periodontitis. The bacterias stimulate a chronic inflammatory response in which the tissues and bone that support the teeth are broken down and destroyed. In most cases, with the right treatment, the periodontal destruction can be stopped, but mostly the destroyed tissue cannot be restored.
